Today for review I have something that I was very excited about getting, I think I may have been more excited than my kids when it got here… It has been ten years since the first Tickle Me Elmo ‘doll’ came onto the market, Fisher Price and Sesame Street have decided to celebrate that anniversary with a new Elmo, called T.M.X. Elmo. The original Tickle Me Elmo doll was a smashing success, it was THE must have toy for the holiday season and beyond, this new incarnation promises to be that and more, with pre-orders dating back to spring of this year. You might wonder why I might be reviewing it on DSM, I say Why Not? At the heart of T.M.X. Elmo is technology, T.M.X. Elmo could actually be categorized as a consumer electronic, or even categorized under robotics, so it fits right in here at DSM, besides I like fun things, and I have to say that this has been one of the most fun reviews I have ever done. T.M.X. Elmo will tickle Americas funny bone with three interactive tickle spots on his chin, tummy or toe. When kids tickle Elmo once on any of the tickle spots, he starts to laugh and slap his leg twice, then falls down into a sitting position and rocks himself back up to standing while laughing. When they tickle him a second time, he repeats the pattern even more, then sits down again and falls backwards onto his back and starts kicking his feet while laughing even harder. He then stands back up and asks to be tickled again. And on the third tickle he absolutely lets loose going through the first two patterns and then rolling over onto his tummy where he starts hitting the floor with his hand in gales of laughter, then rolling onto his back, standing up again, and ending with a deep sigh. Requires 6 "AA" batteries.

A Better Look at Things

As with all reviews we start by looking at the packaging, and the packaging for T.M.X. Elmo is just as cool as Elmo himself, the packaging actually talks like Elmo! When I received my review sample it even had a bow on it, attached was an envelope.

In that envelope was a nice note and the T.M.X. Elmo press kit on CD.

The box is made to look like a metal create, with warnings on it about No Tickling, and that the contents may cause uncontrollable laughter.

The is a nice built in handle to easily carry Elmo around if need be, there’ snot much on the back of the box, the sides have the warnings as well, and a little picture of Elmo. On the bottom of the box is instructions for installing the batteries, 4 AA batteries are needed for Elmo.

There is a flap on the front of the box, lifting this flap activates a cool little voice box that has Elmo saying uh,uh,uh, No Peeking!

Opening the box we of course find Elmo, and we can see the voice box attached to the inside of the box.

T.M.X. Elmo is attached to a cardboard insert that comes completely out of the box.

Elmo is secured with tape and twist ties to keep him from moving about and getting damaged during transit. Fisher-Price also included coupons for Ray-O-Vac batteries, and another battery installation sheet inside the box.

T.M.X. Elmo is not that heavy, he is kind of hard though, feels kind of bony like he needs to eat a bit more, but that just his ‘robotic’ frame that you can feel.

There is an identifying tag on the side of Elmo and that is about it, after all this is Elmo and he doesn’t need much else…

T.M.X. Elmo will be the most wanted gift this season for children of all ages, doing some searching on the internet I found him going to over $100 already.

I took T.M.X. Elmo to my sons’ daycare and everyone loved him, even the adults couldn’t stop laughing at the things he does, he’s just so cool!

Like I mentioned T.M.X. Elmo is sure to be the big thing this holiday season and beyond, Elmo has been one of the most popular toys among children since his introduction ten years ago. Having three children myself, I have quite a few incarnations of Elmo floating around the house. In the next section I have 9 more videos and a few more pictures for you to check out, of course some of the pictures and videos star my youngest son Vincent, so we can see his reaction to Elmo, needless to say he loves it!

Testing and Impressions:

The feet of T.M.X. Elmo are where the batteries are installed, two in each foot, on his right foot is where the on/off switch is located.

T.M.X Elmo is about the same size as the other Elmo’s in the toy line, here is a picture of T.M.X. with his brother ‘Shout’ Elmo that was introduced in 2005.

My son Vincent was very excited about Elmo, he loves his other Elmos and just couldn’t wait to get the box open, but of course he had to play with the box as well.

The Videos Continued:

Elmo has three ‘Tickle’ spots on him, his left foot, his tummy and under his chin. T.M.X. Elmo has three Tickle modes or actions, but what makes him really cool is that he stands back up by himself. Even if Elmo is lying down or on his side and you press one of his ‘Tickle’ spots he will stand back up and go into his routine.

I have to say that T.M.X. Elmo is just great, he is the infusion of technology and cuteness, all rolled into one great toy. I’ve found that not only kids love Elmo, but adults do too, I know I do, but then again I’m just a big kid at heart 😉

I have to say that T.M.X. Elmo is just awesome, my kids love it, and everyone else that has seen it says they just have to have one, even if they don’t have kids!

Summary:

Da-da-da-da Elmo’s Here! Fisher-Price has outdone itself with the T.M.X. Elmo, it’s just amazing what they have accomplished with the technology that is available and still kept the price down. The fact that Elmo can stand up by himself is just cool, and everything else that he does is just hilarious. I know my kids and all the kids at daycare love T.M.X. Elmo, if you have small children make sure you get this for them, not only will they enjoy it but you will too. Elmo has become one of those timeless, if not classic toys that everyone knows and loves, this new addition to the Elmo line of toys is sure to become a classic favorite as well. Elmo is cute, cuddly and a friend to children everywhere all over the world, I think every child knows who Elmo is, and I think every child should have one just to put a smile on their face.
