INTRODUCTION TO CERTIPORT

Certiport manages a sophisticated portfolio of leading certification programs. Partnership with Certiport gives organizations the ability to promote and distribute these globally recognized certification exams. The high-profile brand names generate sales because people understand the value they provide.

Certiport Authorized Testing Center Benefits

These benefits help Centers make the most of their certification offerings through extensive support and expertise. The predominant benefit is a center's ability to couple training and Certiport certifications for an unsurpassed learning experience. This combination allows Certiport Authorized Testing Centers (CATCs) to offer a more competitive and valuable training package, which will lead to increased revenues and success.

Each CATC will receive targeted marketing collateral for all channels and assistance in learning Certiport's best practices.

Certiport Authorized Certiport Testing Center Requirements

These requirements are created to optimize results. To optimize partnership with Certiport, Centers are required to display Certiport program details on all marketing literature and web sites. Certiport also requires all courseware sold or used to be Certiport approved.

    SETTING UP YOUR NEW CATC

After your CATC is registered and activated, at least one person in your organization will need to become a Proctor in order to deliver exams.

    Becoming a Proctor

In order for a user to be added as a Proctor, they must first accept the Proctor Agreement. This can be done during the registration process by selecting the "proctoring" purpose on the last screen. If a user did not select this purpose during registration, they can accept the agreement by following these instructions:

    1. Log in to your Test Candidate Account.
    2. Click My Profile in the top-right corner.
    3. Select the Roles tab.
    4. Click Become a Proctor.
    5. Read and agree to the Proctor Agreement.

To proctor for a CATC the Organization Administrator must associate you to the center:

    1. Log in as an Organization Administrator.
    2. Mouse over the Org Profile tab and click on the dropdown for Associations.
    3. Using the Find Users field at the bottom of the page, enter the Username of the person you wish to associate to your CATC and click Submit.
    4. This search could return multiple results. Locate the matching Username and click it to add it to your associations list.
    5. On your CATC's associations list, you must also designate the User to Proctor exams on behalf of your CATC by placing a checkmark next to their name on the list under the Proctor column.

    Additional Roles & Responsibilities

To assign rights to other members within your organization, such as proctoring, purchasing exams, and reporting capabilities, they need to be added as an association to your center.

To associate someone with your center, they must first have a User Account on www.certiport.com. Click here for instructions on Registering as a new user. Note: Each person will only ever need one User Account, which can be assigned to several different roles.

After creating an association for the user, you will need to determine which roles they should have access to. The roles assigned to each user will determine the tools and functions they will be allowed to use on behalf of your Center.

    1. Log in to www.certiport.com and choose the Organization Administrator role from the drop-down menu.
    2. Under the Org Profile tab, click Associations.
    3. Using the Find Users search tool, enter the first name, last name, login, or email address of the person you are adding to your organization, and click Submit.
    4. In the results list, click the Last Name of the person you are searching for. This adds them to the associations list.

In the Manage Associations list, select the appropriate role for the person. Organization Member or Organization Administer are chosen with the drop down box beside the name. Teacher and Proctor roles can be added on by putting a check mark in the appropriate box.

Console 8 employs concurrent technology which uses hard-coded paths and registry access on your local machine to function. Other software could create a conflict, or prevent these settings from occurring. We recommend that Console 8 be installed on a machine that has as few other software applications installed as possible.

Note: The Console 8 software must be installed locally in a dedicated (fat client) environment - thin/zero/web/citrix clients are not supported.

Note: If it is not found in the requirements above then it should be considered "Not Supported".

Exam Software Download, Install, and Setup

After you have registered your CATC, activated your CATC, and assigned roles, you would then be able to download the exam delivery software using either the Organization Administrator or Organization Member roles. The exam software you will be using to administer MOS 2013 exams will be Console 8.

    1. Ensure all Technical Requirements have been met.
    2. Download the software from the Console 8 Install Page (English Only) and save the file to the desktop of each computer that will be administering exams.
    • Note: The install, setup, and use of the Console 8 exam delivery software must be performed under a Windows Administrator account.
    • Note: The Console 8 download file includes all languages. You will select the default language when installing the software. This is the language of the software user interface and not the exams. Translations within each exam program will have varied availability.
  • Launch the software, log in as an Organization Administrator, and associate it to your new testing center by choosing it in the dropdown list. If you have more than one CATC, select the center that will be administering the exams.
  • Configuring the software:
    • Option 1 - Proxy Access: If your internet goes through a proxy server, the appropriate port, address, and credentials will need to be entered. Click the gear icon to access the options, then click Proxy Access. After applying this option, restart Console 8.
    • Option 2 - Admin Credentials: If you cannot allow a Windows Admin account to be used during exam delivery, you may store the Admin credentials here and log into Windows under a limited User Account. By doing so, the Windows Admin credentials will only be accessed when Console 8 is launched. Click the gear icon to access the options, then click Admin Credentials. After applying this option, restart Console 8.
  • Perform all the updates. The software will need both exam and system updates before delivering an exam for the first time. From the Console 8 Home screen, click the Updates button and checkmark all that apply to your CATC. After the updates have been applied, restart Console 8.
    • Note: Some updates cannot be skipped, but you may skip any updates for programs that your CATC will not be delivering. You will not be able to test until all required updates have been applied.
    • Note: Solutions exist within the Console 8 software for the ease of distribution regarding program and content updates. Please refer to the LAN Solution or the Import/Export Update Utility QRGs for more information.

    System Test

Prior to launching your first certification exam, there are steps you can take to ensure the most error-free testing environment.

    1. Log in to Console 8 as an Organization Administrator or Organization Member.
    2. Click on the Diagnostics button. Then click the arrow to begin the Configuration Exam pathway, which is identical to an actual exam launch but will not use any associated inventory, vouchers, or licenses.
    3. Click the Certify button, click the Microsoft Office Specialist button, and then click the corresponding Office version that you have locally installed (MOS 2010 or MOS 2013).
    4. Select which specific program within the Office suite you would like to test. We suggest running a separate Configuration Exam for each program your CATC will use.
    5. The next screen will display many various checklist components of an actual exam launch, but since this is only a Configuration Exam, you may ignore all of these items and simply click the forward arrow to continue.
    6. The Configuration Exam will stay live for 10 seconds, at which time you will be returned to the Console 8 screen with a blank score report screen, which indicates a successful rehearsal.

Note: When launching an actual exam the system will go through a series of diagnostic checks to ensure that no Office programs are open, and other basic checks to ensure test readiness.

    DELIVERING EXAMS

Prior to administering your first exam, all CATCs should be familiar with Certiport's Exam Policies. Click here for a list of all Exam Polices including (English only):

    • Exam Administration Policies
    • Test Candidate Policies
    • Exam Scoring Policy
    • Exam Retake Policy
    • Exam Item / Grievance Policy
    • Accommodation of Disabilities Policy (ADA)
    • Test Candidate Non-Disclosure Agreement

This section only covers the test launching process from within Console 8. It does not cover the acquisition, installation, or configuration of the exam delivery software. Please refer to the Exam Software Download, Install, and Setup section under Setting Up Your New CATC.

    1. Log out and close any sessions of the Certiport website or other Certiport programs before a Test Candidate launches the software.
    2. Ensure that all Microsoft Office programs are closed before proceeding. In addition to Office, please close all non-essential running programs in an effort to foster the most conflict-free testing environment.
    3. Log in to Console 8 as an Organization Administrator to check for pending updates, as that will prevent testing.
    • Note: A Test Candidate will not be notified of pending updates until you are about to launch the exam, so it is important for the Organization Administrator to login first and apply any applicable updates before the Test Candidate begins.
  • The Test Candidate can now launch the exam delivery software, Console 8, by double-clicking the Console 8 shortcut on the desktop.
  • The Test Candidate will log in using their Certiport Username and Password and click the Forward arrow.
  • After logging in, the Test Candidate should make sure their Name appears correctly in the top right-hand corner, and that the correct CATC appears correctly at the bottom.
  • To launch an exam, start by clicking on the green Study / Practice / Certify button, which will take you to the first page of the Certification Pathway, the Activity Page, which is where a Test Candidate will select a certification exam by clicking on the Certify button.
  • On the next page, the Program Page, the Test Candidate will choose the program they will be testing.
  • If the Test Candidate is taking a Microsoft Office Specialist exam, the Test Candidate will choose the version of Microsoft Office they will be working with on the Suite Page.
    • Note: Only one version of Microsoft Office will be available to select. This will be the version you have installed on that computer.
  • If the Test Candidate is taking a Microsoft Office Specialist exam, the next step is to choose the Product.
  • Next, the Exam and Test Candidate Information Confirmation page will appear. This is where the Test Candidate will check this page to ensure their personal info, the exam selection, and the exam language are all correct.
  • After they confirm the information, click the pencil icon to edit the selections under Payment Method. They will select Exam Inventory/Site License.
  • If they have been assigned to an Exam Group, click the Edit button and enter the Group Number. If they are not assigned to an Exam Group, leave this section blank.
  • In the Exam Requirements section on this page, ensure that each item is addressed by having the Test Candidate verify their mailing address, read and agree to the Non-Disclosure Agreement, and confirm they have registered with the program provider of the exam with which they wish to test.
    • Note: Please complete only one Exam Requirement section at a time. For the Non-Disclosure Agreement, a separate browser window will appear, allowing the Test Candidate to read it, and accept via the browser.
  • The last item to appear in the Exam Requirements section will be the Proctor Authorization. After completing the first three items on this page, the Proctor screen will appear automatically.
  • The exam Proctor, will checkmark the box and enter their credentials after validating the Test Candidate that is taking the exam (as outlined in the Proctor Agreement).
  • After the Proctor enters their credentials and verifies the Test Candidate, click the forward arrow to move on to the exam launch screen.
  • If no conflicts are found, the software will initiate a quick pre-launch diagnostic. If everything is in working order, click the forward arrow to launch the actual exam.
    • Important: Please ensure that no Office programs are running prior to launch. If a conflict is found, the screen will indicate so, and allow you to terminate the program.
  • When the exam has been completed, they will be returned to the last page of the Certification Pathway, the Results screen. Here the Test Candidate can view the exam score, the section analysis, leave comments regarding the testing experience, or view the official score report online, which will allow them to print the results of their exam.
  • When finished, click the arrow next to the Test Candidate’s name to log out of Console 8.

Q: When attempting to deliver an exam we are receiving a "Windows Installer" error, how do we fix this?

A: Windows Installer is a service that the operating system launches when software installations or updates are in progress (from system, network, or internet sources). The Certiport software cannot run if the Windows Installer is also running. If you cannot identify and suspend the source, you can manually stop the service itself by following the steps below:

    1. Click the Start Button and open the Control Panel.
    2. Click on the Administrative Tools icon.
    3. Inside the folder click on the Services icon.
    4. Scroll down the list of services and double-click on Windows Installer.
    5. Click the Stop button and set the Startup Type to Manual.
    6. Launch the exam software and try again.

Note: After you have completed the exam, perform these steps again to turn the service back to "Automatic".

Q: Are Windows Administrative Rights required?

A: Yes. You must have full, local Windows Admin rights with no group policies in effect while installing, configuring, and testing with Console 8. CATCs with limited access can store the Admin credentials inside Console 8 so they are only applied when the software is accessed. To learn more about this option, please see the Exam Software Download, Install, and Setup section on this page.

Q: Why is my exam freezing?

A: There are numerous technical and/or environmental reasons why an exam may freeze. If you experience a freeze please reboot the computer and then resume the "in-progress" exam. Frequent freezing may be indicative of a deeper issue. Please check the following list for possible solutions:

    • The Windows User does not have Admin Rights, or is under a group policy that is preventing Console 8 from obtaining the access it requires.
    • It could be possible for a window requiring attention to appear behind the exam interface, giving the appearance of a freeze. If so, try pressing ALT + TAB to bring the window to the front.
    • Low available RAM memory
    • Low available bandwidth
    • Incompatible Operating System or Service Pack level
    • Incompatible Office Suite or Service Pack level
    • Other, non-essential applications currently running are causing a conflict
    • Instability or corruption in Windows or other applicable software installations
    • One or more Technical Requirements are out of compliance

Q: How does a Test Candidate access their Microsoft Certification ID (MC ID)?

A: To obtain your MC ID from the Certiport website please follow these instructions:

    1. Log in to your Certiport Test Candidate Account
    2. Click on My Profile in top right hand corner
    3. Click on the Programs tab
    4. Directly across from Microsoft you will see in orange letters: You are registered. Click on Edit Registration Data - the number is listed as the Microsoft Person ID#.

For questions regarding the MCP website, please contact Microsoft directly mcphelp@microsoft.com.

    Q: How do I become a Proctor?

A: Please see the section on this page under Setting Up Your New CATC.
